Pricelessware

I don't remember if I've told you about pricelessware.com before, but it a good site, all of the software is mostly for Windows and is free, so go there again if you've been there before... (what?)... Anyway, you should wander over to the Unzipper section and get a (free) program known as IZArc.

"But Shayne, I have the standard decompressor that comes with every Windows installation with Windows 98 SE Plus! and up!" You might say. That's all well and good if all you work with are zips. But life isn't always so simple, and there are many compressed file formats on the Internet that it can't open, like RAR, 7-ZIP, TAR, JAR, A, ACE, ARC, ARJ, B64, BH, BZ2, BZA, CAB, CPIO, DEB, ENC, GCA, GZ, GZA, HA, LHA, LIB, LZH, MBF, MIM, PAK, PK3, RPM, TAZ, TBZ, TGZ, TZ, UUE, WAR, XXE, YZ1, Z, and ZOO, that IZArc is able to extract.

"But I have WinZIP (or WinRAR). It's good enough, and everyone uses it." Here's a lesson for you: The general public is a chump, don't do what everybody else is doing just becuase they're doing it. IZArc is freeware, but WinZip and WinRAR are shareware, meaning you have to pay for it to get rid of the nag screens. And while it might have some compatibility issues with some of the extra Strong Encryption of WinZip, it has so many other advance features that WinZip doesn't have (like the extra format compressions).

Who said I didn't like Paul's Linux crusade? In fact, I've been helping Paul find some neat software for his Gentoo, and although I might tease him about it from time to time, I think it's great what he's doing.

Also: I've used Linux before, and let me tell you, that stuff isn't the easiest software to use. The general public = chump equation still holds true because only a small amount of people (approximately 10% of corporations, and even less of home users) use Linux of any Distro. Some people still have a hard time using Windows, let alone using Linux (although Mandrake and Suse are getting closer to being as easy as Windows to use.

Third point: Just because the general public does it does not mean that doing it means you're a chump. Windows has it's faults. But I choose to use it because it has all of my favorite video games and various other software, not because I haven't heard of Linux before.

I'm not saying that each individual in the general public is a chump, I'm saying that the general public is a chump, and while it is made up of individual people, those people receive much of the same information and lose their induvidual influence inside the group because they're just like everyone else.

...Hmmm. I just read what I wrote, and it sounds dumb. Ignore everything I wrote. You're right, I am a chump. Thank you anonymous person, for making me see the light!
