non-eventful days

Well not much has happened in the last few days. I still havn't gotten my car window fixed and its been hot as hell outside this week.

Good news has come my way I was interviewed yesturday for a new position in the computing center. I can't tell you what I will be doing in this new position because im not allowed to talk about it. It's a hush hush thing... very important..(I'm not joking). I'll become very dangerous with the info ill be working with. (insert devil type grin here)

Just a few more weeks an I'll get to start building my new computer. I'm getting everything researched and learning alot about building computers. I've never actually built a machine this one will be my first. Out of everything I know about computers hardware is not my strong point. I'm more of an expert with software. its alot easier to understand for me.

Ok: physics presentation Friday at 1:30, rm 216 Cardwell Hall. It's gonna suck. Anyways, if you guys come up, I'll have my cell phone on so you can call if you get lost or something.

Some places of interest if you want to go around campus taking pics: North of Claflin on Denison St. is the K-State gardens. Can't miss them. The Beach Art Museum should be open - its on the south east edge of campus, near Aggieville. I think there is a giant fork near King Hall - thats on Mid-Campus drive. There's also some buildings that look like castles, and Hale library is pretty cool too. And if you get bored, you can TP the Presidents residence.

So my dorm is without hot water today, so we got Pizza Hut for supper! And, they raided Kwik Cats and gave us all the candy bars...I smuggled a bag of Oreo's and Hershey's back to my room. I wish Moore could be without hot water more often.
I have under two weeks left at K-State...crazy! I'll be glad to go, I guess, but I'll miss Manhattan. Scary thing is - I give my first presentation to a bunch of physicists on Friday. How do you spell physicists? Hm. Anyways, I need to go work on my powerpoint.

Leaving sooner than I thought

So it turns out I will be getting out of here sooner than I planned. I need to leave by the 29th of this month, or else I will be paying 90 dollars every week. Also, I need to be moved out before Anwar gets a chance to drive over here....
So the plan is on the 29th I will have half my stuff packed and I will drive to VA and stay with Anwar for a few weeks. Then the two of us will drive back here and get the other half of my things. And then drive back. Its a wonderful plan! Woot woot.

In order to fix the problem of the old blog, I found and modified another template from "de Internestos". Easy.

Also, it is now easier to publish photos to Blogger.com. Just go to the link provided, log in, and then create a new post (make sure you're not clicking on something that says "Blog this!"... it won't work. Look at the list of features availiable, like different fonts and such, and you will also find something that looks like an image. Click on it, and you're good to go! (I'm not sure, but IE might be needed.)

today i almost died

ok here i am riding my bike on campus heading to work from my class im in the middle of the cross walk ...clearly i have the right-of-way ..apparently not in hays. there is this girl (surprise surprise a woman driver is involved) driving toward me at a higher speed than is posted she is not stopping i hit my break on my bike the break cable breaks..(ill take pictures later of my broken cable)...I leap from my bike finally she comes to a screeching hault inches from my poor bike. and she sits in her car giving me this die and go to hell look and doesnt even get out and appologize for almost killing me! Today i confirmed there is someone watching over me and i do have a guardian angel.

ok here is a bit of what going on in my life ....

last week i went camping on my vaction i returned to hays last weds. and i've been hangin out ever since friday i went to eat at Gella's the new resturant here in Hays. It was good however there was an hour wait before we got seated. so we took a stroll down to the Semolino coffee shop where i had a strawberry smoothie and played speed ( a card game at which I really suck at).

after about 45 mins we headed back to Gella's which we had to wait 15 more mins to get seated we were finally seated i must say even though the prices are a lil expensive the food is great.

Dinner was great after we were full we took the car through one of the automatic car washes. I love those things. After the car was clean we headed down to Wild West Fest where we went to go watch the Phil Vassar concert it was fun. He had sang about 4 songs when a storm decided to come in everybody was leaving NOT us! we stayed until the end we got soaked.

while the crew was putting up the electric equipment Phil was playing around on his piano and singing different stuff and signing autographs. out 5000 ppl think there was about 50 or 60 that stayed to the end. when we left the park we decided that on our way back to the car we had to jump in every puddle on the way back. Lots of fun! My shoes are still wet!

Anyways, I bought a tent and a sleeping bag today! The tent is very cute - I think I might have to move into it for a while and pretend I'm in the Rockies. With a tv.
I'm going camping in less than two weeks!!!!

Wheat Harvest Fever: Catch it!

Exciting times... At approximately 11 o'clock last night (mountain time, Saturday, July second), lightning struck close to the farm, causing one of our fields to come to life and wreck downtown Tokyo.

... No, wait. It caused the field to catch fire. Damage was limited to between two to three acres of burned wheat (of 125 acres) located at one of the corners of the irrigated crop circle. It's a shame because it's our last field to be harvested! What's the deal?!

Luckily it was detected in its early stages (by Grandma!), and, with the authorities notified, Dad and uncle Larry took to the field to prevent the flames from spreading. Armed with sweeps, the threat was quelled quickly. Surprisingly, the winds were low at the time of the incident, and the light rains (8/100 of an inch) helped to kill the raging king-sized campfire. Our thanks goes out to the local fire department and police.

Incidently, I was nowhere near the farm as all this was going on. Nope, I was over at my cousin Jay's, watching ¡Three Amigos!, along with my cousin Candi. Good movie. It will be turning twenty next year; I'm betting they will have the special DVD version for it by then. Just a guess.
Despite the bad weather last night, it didn't rain enough to severely delay harvest today. I didn't participate though: I had the day off while uncle Larry and cousin Sky completed most of the field. And, because the harvest is essentially wrapped up anyway, I will betraveling to Hays Monday. Independence Day, baby! Woo!

Also, I'm well aware that not many readers of this post know the people related to me. That stuff takes time, man, and being so formal as to say Mr. La-dee-dah just seems over-the-top. Time is something that I have very little of, between work and lazing around, and I'm not good at formalities, idiot.

I kid, I kid. I love you all. Except for you communist hippies. You know who you are.

Linux

Today, I have fixed some more problems with my gentoo linux install. One of these days it is going to be all fixed up hahaha. I should do something productive, but o well. The weather is somewhat nice. At least it is cooler (like me). Well that is all I got. Live long and prosper.

Some Days

Some days a really hot shower in the middle of the day just feels right. Today was one of those days. Man it felt good. You can see the sunlight coming in through the window, bunch of bugs in the shower with you (OK, that part was not so cool), and the burning hot water hitting your skin...it was just right (except for the bugs thing). I just wish I could have looked out the window while taking the shower (of course then people would be able to see in as well).

Yesterday

I had a (comparatively) bloggable day yesterday.
A: the Maseberg Mobile now has air conditioning...so now it's as cool as possible. Maybe even cooler than me... Plus, I had to kill a man to do it.
Not quite kill a man - just pay the same amount of money it would take to kill a man (that's assuming the going contract these days is what I used to work for).

B: I was caught in a severe cloudburst on my way back to Cardwell Hall from lunch. It was very unfortunate, as I'm not used to showering in sneakers and jeans. Oh, and I witnessed a very close lightning strike. VERY close (across-the-parking-lot-close). No Shayne, I did not go deaf or blind...stop spreading those myths! But I did smell the ozone - just like one of those cheesy Twilight Zone episodes right before the aliens land. Oh wait, that's not ozone... OK, how about this one: just like a photocopier. Hm. The first one sounded less lame. That's the price of journalistic integrity, I suppose.

C: I made brownies. Peanut butter cup brownies. Need I say more?

Does this date a book?

I was reading "Boundary value problems of heat conduction" and read this line taking about some convolution and the book says "they are most appropriately solved with an analog computer". Yea, and analog computer that is what I want. Jessie can you make me one so I can do this problem? You know all about op amps right. I found it funny, hoped you might to.

I only have enough common sense to know that I don't have enough of it.

There are certain things that people hold fond memories of. From what I gathered: for Paul, it was the ranching experience in Nebraska; For Jon, It's baseball; For Lester, it's Japan (If I'm wrong on any of these counts, please feel free to let me know). I know that there are more fond memories than just those, and I also know that I've made them very broad, but that's beside the point, Mrs. "Let's-make-an-interesting-paper-English-teacher". The point is, there is at least one memory that a person can go back to that makes them feel all warm and fuzzy inside.

That's what I had going for me heading into wheat harvest. My head flooded with memories of riding around a combine with my dad, for hours and hours and hours. Wheat harvest was us working as a team: combine drivers, grain cart drivers, semi drivers, support from home base... Everyone gave their all, practically working themselves insane. Nearly all the farm was enraptured in harvest.

And then, after my first real day of Wheat Harvest, 2005!, all I could think about was sleep.

The crew and equipment might have changed, but not that feeling of comradery.

But enough of my blabber. After perusing through my PC Gamer, I've come across a couple neato websites dedicated to abandonware. For you lazy people that didn't follow the link, abandonware is, in part, old software which has nobody to defend the copyright, and also is no longer making a profit. Enter the relm of "grey-area" legality, where "what is legally acceptable" splits from "what is morally justified".

There are cases when old software has been released to the public domain by the current copyright holders. No problem there. Other cases aren't quite as clear cut.

Abandonware: The land that law forgot!

the-underdogs.org makes me feel better about the whole abandonware issue, and I'm sure it will help you too. This isn't a "warez" site, or whatever it is that those hooligians call them these days. They are interested in doing what historians have been doing for centuries: Helping us preserve and enjoy the past. Or exploit the hard work of peoples blood, sweat, and tears. I guess it depends on the spin.

Another site is abandonia.com. It also seems to be a good site.

I have not posted in a some time. I have been busy doing other things with all free time. I think the greatest thing I have done this summer so far is almost running to Walmart and back. Anyways, I've been reading from the Archives, back in the day when FHSU Bloggination was still an infant. A bouncing baby blog chiefly occupied by THE MAN Shayne, THE MAN Alex, THE MAN Lester, and THE MAN Jon. Ah, the good old days... Where was I, guys??? I mean seriously...you were missing out on THE ROCKIN WOMAN JESSIE. Heehee...riiiight....
Oh, and I just got a can of Honey Roasted Macademias from Hawaii. It's awesome. From Hawaii! This little can is the closest thing I have to my ultimate vacation right now. It's from this girl Nora who lives on my hall - she's leaving to go back to Hawaii tomorrow :( (sniff, sniff).

So I'm at home in Macksville with the parents - Mom and I went to church but Dad stayed home (he was afraid for his life cause it's Father's Day and churches get a little excited about that sort of thing). I may not get back up to Manhattan until tomorrow morning. I'm not too keen on driving another 3 hours in 90 degrees with no ac...
Anyways, I saw Batman Begins the other day, and it was AWESOME. Ninjas, pyschotropic drugs, it had it all! It's kinda funny that the prequel is way better than all of the other Batman movies - but hey, at least they had one good one, right?
It's time for me to go eat lunch, so Live Long and Prosper.

Weddings: Dig it!

So Lester and I visited home about a week ago, under the guise that we were going to a wedding. In reality, however, we were uncovering a major conspiracy involving Iatola MacCormliky. We hadn't heard of him either, but an anonymous letter was left at our doorstep, telling us he was the guy. As it turns out, he's planning on opening his own line of Mexican food restaurants. Another case closed.

The wedding, in related news, was great. The reception was good too; the food, while not normal fare for such an occasion, was quite good. No disrepect to my hosts, but usually I tend to dislike wedding receptions where booze is another attraction, and this wasn't an exception. Probably the smell of breath, and the increased possibility of 'that weird uncle' to start doing 'that weird dance'. It was all ok, though, because Lester and I got to talk to my cousin Candi, who is awesome. Oh, and I got to catch up with some old classmates of mine, too, which was great. It makes me realize how little I've changed physically compared to others in my class, or maybe it seems that way because I'm always with myself. Just maybe.

So what had I learned from all this? Don't provide alcohol at a wedding reception. The guests still have to give gifts if they come, and because they leave at an earlier time, you have more time for honeymooning.

Half-way through the wedding reception, Lester became possessed by some demonic spirit. We wish them the best.

So there I was, in the Derby Dining Center eating a very unappetizing piece of pizza (since when does meat lovers mean that all you get is two pieces of sausage? it kinda freaked me out too, cause it looked like the pizza slice was looking at me....but that's just my normal paranoia), when I hear the table behind me start singing, "badger badger badger...mushroom, mushroom." It reminded me of the good old days - and it also struck me as a little odd that the table was singing. And then I discovered that there were people sitting there, and I'm like, well, if they're ok enough with a singing table to eat at it, then I guess I can handle it too. Did I mention that I was all alone in an 85 degree F lab all day?? And that it's been raining all day? And it's supposed to rain all weekend?? I think I need a vacation...or some medication...

So I bought this game today for $12.99 (plus tax) and I played it some today, and it totally rocks! It is so awesome. And scary as well, Shayne and I huddled to gather while I played. It makes you jump and such. I'm glad I bought it. Also, you have a sanity bar, and each time you see a monster you lose some of your sanity! That's so freakin' awesome! The screen starts to tilt, the walls bleed, all kinds of crazy stuff. If you get a chance, play it!

Cinderella Man

I saw Cinderella Man last night (the one where Russell Crowe is a boxer during the Depression). It was really good - it reminded me a lot of Seabiscuit or Hidalgo, minus the sandstorms and the fact that Russell Crowe is most definetly not a horse. He did have a great Jersey accent though. I love true stories (as long as they are as awesome as this one). I just wish...that I could have gotten up in time to eat breakfast... :(

Hooray! The highlight of my day was A) not getting run over by a car and B) finally getting my free ethernet. The food could be better, the dorm could definetly stand to smell less, but I do have a really nice desk. It's big enough for my computer, it's awesome. I'm gonna have to steal it...Oh, and I also got my own room cause my roommate is living in town with her sister. So, no cable, but single room! Well, congrats Uncle Shayne! (I'm so proud). General Grievous was totally awesome. I think he kicked butt! I mean, come on, he had four arms, FOUR ARMS (and hands)! That's so awesome. I want four arms! When I get older, I'm gonna surgically attach 2 mechanical arms so that I have four arms. I'll be totally kick ass. And he had four light sabers! Too bad he didn't know how to use them, cause he died. If it were me, I wouldn't have died, I would have ran, with my awesome four armness. OH yeah!

so i'm at home in macksville (we blog on the left here) and wondering what is up with the backstreet boys still making music? isn't it crazy? here i thought they were stuck in teeny-bop world forever. man, i wish i could i order a pizza. instead, i have to make my own! but it gets worse: there's no Walmart either. terrible, just terrible.
but, no worries: episode III comes out on thursday, which means that if i'm lucky, i can hypnotize my parents and convince them to take me on friday night. i can't wait to see the ultimate showdown between yoda and darth sidious.
and, in other news, i'm bored stiff here. the highlight of my day: watching shayne on his webcam.
the low point of my day: watching a first aid video with my mom (did you know that motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause of accidental death?). anyways, i'm done rambling for a while...if anything else that's completely un-newsworthy pops up in my life, i'll be sure to blog about it.

Oh well. It lasted much longer than I expected. Having only one of its founding fathers drop out of the blog (well, technically, Alex is still in it, but he hasn't blogged in it for how long now?)

Last day for Anwar

Today was was really fun. We celebreated Sam and Tara's B-Day today. We went to Sonic and played V-ball, it was totally awesome! Sorry Jess, didn't mean to grab your butt! It was pretty funny when Alex, Jon, and Jess had that ice cream cake fight. Glad I stayed out of it. And then more stuff happened, but I forgot why I started to blog this, I'm sure there was a point somewhere....oh well. I'm tired of typing, you can just comment about other stuff if you want about what happend. I love you ANWAR!
